Anatolian Shepherd Dog (Livestock Guardian Dog)

We have one.

She came to us this spring, in April. Never had been around chickens, ducks or geese. She was 5.5 yrs old, and had guarded Alpacas until her family downsized.

She is not bonded to the chickens or birds, but is fantastic with them and keeps the coyotes off the property.

All three dogs spend all day with loose birds, the border collie and cane corso come into the house at night and Tui (anatolian) stays outside. Tui has shown no signs of being interested in the wild cats who sometimes live under out shed.

They won't harm what you don't want them to harm. If they know the cats belong there, they are fine with them and any other household pets you have.

Anything that YOU deem okay should be accepted by the dogs. If you teach the pups not to chase the cats, they should learn that fine. Now, if one of the cats DOEs attack something the dogs have learned they should guard, they may stop it. But in general, they are wired that they should only be as aggressive as the threat warrants, so if the cats arent causing a problem, the dog shouldnt see it as a problem.
That is IF you have a good dog and you have trained it.
