Now that hes no longer a rambunctious puppy, he's pretty mellow with the chickens. I don't keep him in the run with them all the time, but when he's with them, he just finds a shady spot and flops down to keep watch. He'll bark at large birds like hawks and vultures if they fly overhead, and if he does, the chickens will all run for cover at his bark. It's the coolest thing. He hasn't killed any mammal predators, but he's killed his fair share of snakes. Since I've had him, i haven't lost a bird to raccoons, which used to be a huge problem here. I don't think they want to mess with my big boy :)

Well glad to here he is doing good with the chickens. Do you let him in the house? That's cool how he warns the chickens!!!!!!!!!!!!

When he was a puppy, he had to have surgery on his shoulder, so we kept him in for a few months. We dont let him in anymore because of his sheer size and all that hair lol. And yep. He's a cool dude :) my lab even helps with escaped chickens, he'll herd them back into their pens. Sometimes i think he was supposed to be a herder rather than a retriever!

That's what our boxer/lab does we point and tell her to bring it home and she does lol

Why did he need surgery?

He had something wrong with the cartilage in his shoulder that made it painful for him to walk. The surgery totally corrected it though, and now he can run and wrestle with his lab 'brother' pain free :)

I found some more cute pics. This is him this fall being super watchful and alert with some of my baby SLWs

Him in the house after his surgery. we had to help him walk with that harness for a few weeks. He was so cute and all legs and paws at that age
