Hi all! I used to be fairly active on this forum several years ago. My account must have been deleted due to inactivity or lost during a site upgrade or something. Regardless, I rejoined.
I was a stay at home dad and had several hobbies including raising chickens. I raised and eventually hatched several breeds during that time. Reds, Links, Americauna, Barred Rock, Buff Orpington, Delaware, Leghorn(white and brown), Polish(buff and gold laced), and Wyandottes....to name a few. My favorite breed ended up being the leghorns. Lightweight and a bit skittish but man, they are as efficient as it gets when it comes to producing eggs! I also grew very fond of the Delawares too. Docile and fairly productive but as I don't intend to eat them, I'd rather spend less on feed this time around.
Times have changed and I had less and less free time to spend on hobbies as the kids grew older(now teenagers). Both of my girls decided to take a break from softball this year which frees up a considerable amount of time. I recently saw a few friends on social media showing their chicks from TSC. It had me itching to grow some birds again. Since I have had most of the breeds offered by TSC at one time or another, I wanted to try something different this time. I did a little research and decided the California Grey or Production Black (Ideal) would be a good choice for what I wanted to do. There a couple local feed stores that offer a wider selection of breeds. I latched on to one this weeks chick orders from one of them and ended up getting 4 Production Black pullets from Ideal. Was supposed to be 5 but one didn't make it during shipping. So here I go again...
