And.... Here we go! Girls arrived today

Dear Heavens, day two for the girls, even more energy. They seem to be just fine at right around 90 degrees in the brooder. Ate right from my hand this morning... Weather is nice enough today so the run is going together and their house. Got all the parts in for a hygienic drinker, will be putting that together this weekend too.

I just looked up that breed and they are BEAUTIFUL 😍 and super adorable as babies of course!
Thank you! Yep, we tried to study up on all available material, the Appleyard breed just checked all the boxes for us. You are so right, they will be quite attractive. The other traits fit our circumstances as well. We live in a colder climate so we needed hearty resistance to cold temps, heavier weight will keep the smaller critters at bay (we are semi-rural). While they might not be at the top of the list for egg production, they are no slouch either. Finally, their level of calmness and social demeanor means they will be our buddies in the yard vacuuming up the bugs. So lucky that we have a duck specialist vet just 4 miles away should we ever need them.

Such entertainment, watching them tear around the brooder. What a fine decision to bring these girls into our family. You should have seen our granddaughter see them for the first time last night....bonus.

Ok, yesterday was incredible. Took the girls for their first little swim (in the bathtub with just a little water). That was some next level stuff. Set them in the water, their reaction was "Well this is new", then they took off like lightning all around he tub. Talk about hilarious and miraculous at the same time. Let them motor around a bit, then back to the brooder. What an experience.
