And I'm out! Hatching pics!

Question about hatching... I see some of you are putting different groups that hatch at different times in your bators. How is that working out for you? I thought you had to increase the humidity last few days. Doesn't that interfere with the later hatches. And... you have to open your bator to retrieve hatched chicks. What does that do for eggs still to hatch? Don't the hatching chicks possibly expose the waiting eggs to bacteria? Just wondering. I always thought you had to have everything hatch in the same day or two. Please advise. Would be great to do different batches.

Hi! I don't know how one would do staggered hatching without a separate hatcher.
I usually set eggs once a week so this hatcher has duck eggs set the 11th and chicken eggs set the 18th. I think it is neat that it works out that way.
I didn't know you don't have any chickens, Nicky! How're the duck eggs in your incubator doing?

Aren't silkies just the most preciousest thing ever when they hatch!?

Duck eggs are doing good. 1 due the 14th 2 due the 20th, all are still alive and bopping around inthe eggs so fingers crossed. Nope I dont have chickens, but I would like a few but im scared they would try to jump into the dogs yard and that would be the end of that. I want some of those white chickens with black round their necks but I would rather they have their own coop, so I would have to build 1..maybe 1 day. Plus I dont like the idea that chickens get mites. I hate creepy crawlies of any kind and would have a heart attack if I saw any on the chickens.

Thank you for sharing those pictures. I did my first hatch last fall of just mutts in a GQF Hova-Bator and it was mostly a first time experiment. We had about 30 eggs out of 41 hatch, I saved 4 females and two males out of the batch, we sold, gave away or ate all the others. I'll not try to hatch so many next time at once.
