I've been lurking for a while now and doing a lot of reading up on chickens and their care. I got a freebee coop last weekend. It needs some modifications (new roof, more ventilation, nest boxes). The remodeling begins this weekend!!

LOL Lazy L! Chickens have been an addiction ever since I decided to start researching.

Joan, I plan on putting nest boxes on the back. I'm thinking a community nest box would work best for this coop. The nest boxes will have a hinged top. I'm going to add ventilation to both sides as there is already a strip of hardware cloth on the back at the top. The plywood isn't the best so I'm hoping some outdoor paint will at least perserve it as it is. The roof is going to be that plastic stuff (can't remember what it's called) and it will be on top of the nest boxes too.

that should fix it up! I hope you pick a bright color to paint it with. I think I would also want to cover the plywood or OSB with some kind of siding.
