I am a horrible horrible chicken mother!!! I have a plethora of chickens but only let my two spotted sussex roam all over the backyard. I mostly let them out in the evenings. Well stupid me forgets that they are out and lets the dogs out back. I realize this after about 5 minutes maybe. I instantly panicked and start screaming at the dogs to get in the house. Throw on my gloves and go outside prepared for the worst. These are my favorite chickens and my most loving one. Found the one in front of the shed and she was fine. Couldn't find the other one. Found a whole bunch of feathers but no chicken. I spent an hour combing the whole acre and out in the fields beyond us looking for her. Double checked my dog's stomach as she had just ate and if she ate a whole chicken then figured her belly should be huge. Nope it wasn't. Keep looking and after three times of walking in our one unfinished coop I finally find her behind a couple of trash bags full of leaves. You cannot imagine how relieved I was. Checked her over a billion times and can only find one little spot on her butt where she got knicked. Poor chicken probably thought I was molesting her. I am just so thankful that she is okay but really ticked at myself for subjecting her to that. Uggggghhhh!!!!

Glad your chickens are ok.

OMG how dare you be HUMAN!!!

Luckily it was all okay - and nothing like a near miss make you really watch closer - glad your girls are okay

Yes and she hid good!! I am glad though because it might be what saved her. I was just sick to my stomach because I didn't want her to be out there somewhere badly injured or hiding and not able to get in the coop. It's supposed to get down in the 20's tonight and has been trying to snow all day.

This wasn't my only mishap this week. I shut one of my leghorns legs in the door the other day and about 10 minutes after that stepped on another's foot!!! Thank God they were both okay. Not having a good chicken week!!!! Tomorrow is the start of a new week so here's to a good chicken week!!

You got really lucky.

Yesterday, I lost five chickens to my dogs.

I'm so glad that my favorite one, Lunch Box survived.
So, we have 7/12. Could've been worse, but it was still sad.

E-Collars will be arriving soon for my pups!
