I find jokes like this humorous because they, through a type of sarcasm and parody,
illuminate how foolish and sad some of the things our soldiers are risking their lives

The "butts" of this joke are Pakistanies, suicide bombers, and outsourcing, not the
amazingly brave soldiers out there fighting it.

Well I never said I did not like anyone here, and somehow got the idea that I could post my opinion here like anyone else. As far as telling me to shut up that is the real joke. I have the earned right to my opinion as well as anyone else and did not see anything that said no posts if you can not find it funny. I said nothing combative in my post yet you feel the need to let me know to shut up. Easy to do on a screen somewhere else, but if that is your style go at it, I only stated my opinion and stand by it.

Purplechicken never made fun of U.S. armed forces personnel, nor did he tell you to shut up, or question your right to post your opinon.

In the future please read and maybe reread a post before you get offended.

As a mother of a soldier over in Iraq I know my son would have laughed at the joke. SOmetimes its easier to laugh then cry.

Beeky, I too am a vet of that same unpopular war, and probably got the same homecomming you did when I got home. And I too am very angry and bitter over it. I keep that in check most of the time, but sometimes am oversenceative to it. I know how you feel.

I've had several conversations on here with PC and we haven't always agreed but I can tell you for sure he didn't mean you or anyone any disrespect.

The joke made me laugh more because of the truth in it. For the most part the people in that part of the world don't like us, they started telling us that years ago when they started hijacking airplanes now they burn our flag, blow up our buildings, and take great enjoyment from any misery we share as a nation. Yet, for whatever reason, our brave young men, my brothers, are dying so they can be brought out of the Dark Ages they live in. I say to heck with them. If they want their freedom let their boys die just as ours did in our revolution and civil war. So, yea, I thought the joke was extremely funny.

For those who have fought for it Freedom has a taste the protected will never know. Don't know who originally said that, but it explains alot to me.

Repo, Yogi, Beeky, and all other veterans of Vietnam are heros, patriots and more.
You have my sincerest respect, admiration, and appreciation. You should
have come back from that he*llhole to screaming girls, tickertape parades
and a gracious country. Unfortunately history didn't happen that way.


My father and father-inlaw were both it the National Guard in the late 60's.
Somehow niether one was called to active duty. If guys like you weren't
already there doing the job then one or both of them would have been
sent. My wife was born in 69. I was born in 70. My son in 2000. I hope you
all see what I'm saying. I owe you everything and am humbled when in
the presence of veterans like you.

Don, Thank You, but none of us expect that...well maybe the screaming girls.

With our brothers being killed and wounded in another senceless war it brings back alot of emotions. When people get all goofey about things they have no idea what they are talking about those emotions can get a little raw. I am more than certain none of us put our life on the line for glory or accolades. We did it for our country, for all the rest of you. Its the government that screwed it all up then and is doing the same now. Like I've said before the lives of all the Iraqes in Irag are not worth one fingernail of an American GI. Its sad that our government is willing to waste those lives trying to help people that don't want to be helped (VietNam and Iraq) War should never be declared by anyone who hasn't been there with the exception of an attack like Pearl Harbor. We have all these college frat boys deciding on the destinies of our children.

Don I just hope and PRAY that by 2018 when you son reaches that age we as a society will have figured out a better way.

Don, your kind words are very much appreciated by guys like Bob and myself. Thanks guy. And as Bob pointed out, we did not do it for the glory. We did it because it was the right thing to do, obligation to God and country. It is not even something that most of us like to talk about. We did have another option, Canada, Mexico, or religious objection. You can't imagine what it is like as a 19 year old (kid) being drafted and thrown into a mess like that was.
In excess of 50K lost their lives over there. In addition, thousands more survived but not well enough to function in society today. I thank God that you and my sons have not had to do that. Like Bob, my prayer is that neither your children or grandchildren ever have to experience that. But I am sure that Bob will tell you that we are all better men for having done so because today we take nothing forgranted and ask nothing in return.
I watched my dad suffer every day for 32 years until his death as a result of WW II. If someone wants to talk about emotions, try me!
My grandma gave birth to 11 sons and 2 daughters. She had 8 of her 11 sons on active duty at the same time overseas during WW II. Talk about sacrifices! What do you think that poor lady must have gone through back then with no communications like we have today. No news for her was good news. And they all returned safely after the war was over. She is my hero. She earned her place in heaven.
