We might have lost a chicken. Bernadette went over the fence and my girls chased her down into the long grass. :( stupid chicken. She's a 5 week old Americauna. Is she old enough to know where her flock is and where home is?

We live in Hawaii. There are no predators here.
Having recently been in Hawaii, I can assure you there are plenty of predators for poultry, especially a very young chick. As you've noted below, LOTS of feral cats.
She may make her way back, but no guarantee. if you listen you will hear her distress calls, follow those and carefully/calmly work to get hands on her.....cornering helps so use the existing vegetation, etc to your best advantage.

She didn't (or couldn't) come home. Soon after we lost her, I heard people down in the valley (hopefully just hiking). I'm guessing they found her. I'm praying they found her. Because the other option is she's been taken by a cat. :( I'm so sad.

Americanas are Scrappy
I'm discovering that. We have (had) 2 and they are the least willing to socialize with us. I'm hoping she's out there, but my husband spent a lot of time down there looking for her this afternoon (he came home from work to help me look ).
