I swear I feel like I'm new to ducks this year. I'm not. We've had ducks for at least 6 or 7 years now but this is my first year incubating/hatching (have had mama ducks hatch before, just never hatched with an incubator) and because I'm a stay-at-home critter mom now, I'm seeing the babies WAY more than I did when I worked.
We had a black swedish Drake with angel wing years ago, but I can't remember what it looked like when it was starting to show. Please forgive me for using people limb part names, but if I'm remembering correctly angel wing is in their wrist joint right? Like it makes the "hand" (end) of their wing turn away from their body?
One of my babies is an almost 6 wk old Pekin (I have more questions about her but will wait 'til another day), Bill Bill. I noticed "his" wing tips while we were snuggling yesterday and got a little panicked because I wasn't sure if this is angel wing starting or just normal "big duck" wing feathers. The feathers that concerned me are the ones pointing towards his spine. He gets really annoyed with me when I try to get him to spread his wings so I can look closer. But from what I've seen, I'm pretty sure these feathers are coming from his "finger tips" and his wings seem to be folding up nice and smooth against his body.
He mostly eats the 15% grower finisher food that the rest of my big ducklings got with nutritional yeast sprinkled on top. Except he discovered sashimi with brown rice last weekend...not sure if that little bit of extra protein is enough to be a problem. He doesn't get more than a piece or two a day because, well, fish makes his poop STINK and I'm paranoid about protein causing angel wing. He also gets mixed baby salad greens...stands at the refrigerator quacking until I open the door and then practically climbs into the crisper drawer to get his greens. (My fowl all start as "he"...Bill has been quacking and honking more and more frequently so I'm pretty sure he's really a girl but whatever. At least Bill isn't short for "Billiam"... his name came from me seeing his adorable little bill the first time I candled his egg. "Aww! Look at your adorable little bill bill!")
Anyway. He just walked up next to me, stood tall and flapped his wings. They look like normal wing shape. The end/wrist/hand isn't turning away from his body. I'm just being an overly paranoid duck Smother aren't I?

That's what I was thinking. The feathers would be turned outward away from her body right? Her wings are nice and smooth against her body. Except for the feathers that are poking up a bit on top. Which I probably wouldn't have noticed except she began for hugs sometimes and she felt different during snuggle hug time yesterday. Not squeezing hugs... don't really know how to describe it. My husband says we're weird. As if I don't know I'm weird! :D

What a beautiful duck wow

Thanks! Very glad to hear she looks good...and that others think she's pretty. :D Pekins tend to be a bit...plain but Bill Bill absolutely makes up for plain with personality. She's a bit of a ham sometimes. Absolutely has me wrapped around her little wing tips. Which is suppose might be obvious by the fact that she gets sashimi. And grilled salmon. She also fusses about her shower times. She likes to shower in the morning after breakfast and again before bed at night.

:lau Aren’t you glad she lets you live with her.

Absolutely! I feel like I need to figure out how to make her be friends with one of our newly hatched babies. I let the "bigger" babies play with her in the shower in the morning. (Completely supervised since she's so big and they need supervision in the shower anyway.) She's very sweet with them. When they get startled they run and hide under her. It's pretty cute.

I'm pretty sure my husband even likes having her living with us. I don't normally buy fish because I think it smells disgusting. Hubs loves fish though. So now he gets fish. Because it would be super weird to buy sushi and fish just for a duck. It's not weird if Hubs is eating it and shares with the duck! :lau
