Hi everyone!

Our 11 week old duck, Lulu, started acting strange yesterday. She’s normally our most curious, affectionate, food motivated duck, but after all the girls got out of the pool around dinner time, she lagged behind her sisters in getting out, distanced herself/lagged behind them & was a little indifferent to dinner. Normally at 7pm they let us know they are ready to go to bed, but last night no one wanted to get out of the pool (in our enclosed run), so we let them be.

This morning she had the same attitude, but we noticed something going on with her wings. It’s both wings - could it be angel wing? Any remedy suggestions? We tried watching videos to tape them, but she of course wiggled and picked it right off.

Any food that can help prevent/cure this? We feed them Purina duck food, but am I feeding them garbage? Should we be switching to Mazuri?

Thank you and Happy Fourth of July!!

No, this isn’t angel wing, but she does look a bit roughed up. I’ve seen ducks shift their wings like that before, but I’m not sure what it is / means. I can’t explain her other behavior.

I haven’t had a problem with Purina personally, but I do know Mazuri is more high-quality.

Happy 4th of July! :)

Usually my duck does this when he’s content but considering she’s lagging behind definitely means there’s an issue. Not sure if the wings thing has anything to do with it, it could just be a coincidence? Have you felt her crop at all? Done a physical and felt her wings and abdomen, crop, feet, etc to see if everything is normal?

I heard Purina feed isn’t the best feed in terms of nutrition but that also could just be a coincidence if you have been already feeding it to them for months

Where'd you hear that? I don't feed it since it's usually a little old here.

Back first part of the year there was talk on Gab their chicken site about how bad Purnia was that chickens had stopped laying and after switching feed brands the chickens were back to laying again.

Hi everyone - thanks for reaching out and I think we figured it out… Lulu simply partied too hard yesterday! 😬 According to our cameras, they spent the entire night in the pool. We also had dog & raccoon visitors as well as fireworks. We brought all four girls indoors to snuggle in their tub and turned the lights off. Not a peep. A few hours later, they all popped up when I went to check on them and Lulu’s wings didn’t twitch once and she was getting back to her normal self.

So we’re hoping she was just one over-stimulated duck.

We’ll continue to keep a close eye on her and reach back out if there are any other developments!
