Angel Wings in chickens

Do chicks normally have enlarged wings like this at 1 week old?
Some chicks grow their wing feathers faster than others, but yours looks fine to me.

It is normal for a chick to grow enough wing feathers to fly with, before they get proper feathers on the rest of their body. This means the wings look very big when they are spread out (like the photo of the chick in your hand), and the wings can look large even when folded (the photo of the chick standing.)

The difference between angel wing and what your chick had:
In the first picture, where your chick is standing, she has folded her wings and looks nice and smooth along the sides.
In the photo posted by @416bigbore posted, the duck folded its wings (just like your chick), but they are NOT smooth along the sides. The tips are sticking out even when the duck has tried to fold them in. That is angel wing-- it looks like an "angel" with spread wings, even when it has tried to fold them up.

:welcome :frow So sorry for your loss. I hatch out a few hundred chicks every year. I have had some that don't thrive. It happens and sometimes there is nothing you can do to change it. I have tried, some times successfully and other times unsuccessfully. Good luck with the rest and have fun...
