animal bedding

I am getting ready to switch my week old chicks to pine shavings. We have horses so I am very familiar with the product although when I carried the bag into the house I noticed the bag as "absorbant animal bedding" and not "pine shavings". They look and smell like pine shavings, but because of the wording I am concerned that there may be other wood in them as well.

Are there any other woods that could be toxic to the chicks that would be in there?

Cedar is toxic to chicks.

for my indoor brooder babies-I am using aspen shavings.MUCH less dusty.

I use Apsen too. Indoor and outdoor.
