Animal control issue, what to do? Iowa

I think if it goes that far, a video camera could be your best friend. Video your dog, HIS dog and all the surroundings so that if and when the investigator comes back out, you have something to show them? And perhaps turning the tables on this man will make him understand how frustrating it can be...so a few phone calls about his dog when he calls about yours may be in order, especially if his dog is the barker in this case.... ?? Just a thought.... (I hate people too!LOL)

Believe me there is usually one in every neighborhood! Think I just might make a phone call everytime I heard his bark! Does he like pizza? Ambulance in the night? Just kidding! Be cool though as he could make an issue of the chickens and they would have to act on it if its on the books!!!

I too hate my neighbors!!!!!!! I have had countless calls to animal control ( in my case police) and the Health dept due to I live in a very woodsy sparsly populated area but since there is a lake down the road we get the summer people which about triples the population and These summer people are the rich types from down by the detroit suburbs. They come up and that is when the fun begins usually.... it goes like this.....
Hi officer how can I help you today? There is a complaint that your ducks are starving and there pen stench is unbearable. So I walk the good officer around to the back yard and there are the ducks basking and swimming in the pond having a grand old time. The officer sniffs the air and walks into the pen sniffs the air again and says Hum.... im standing in a duck pen and I smell pine trees lol Stench!!!!! there is no stench and my ducks are in perfect weight . He got in his car drove back to the neighbors house and gave them a citantion. Hee Hee sooooo dont feel bad there are alot of real jerks in this world! And us normal types just have to put up with the nutters )

I would think that if he continues to phone in fake neglect reports that you could take it up along the lines of harrassment. My mother has a neighbor like this. He would stick his head over the fence and bark at my mom's dog and then call animal control and report that she had a vicious dog. Some people, indeed..... every neighborhood has one

And, at the same time, it would be an awfully good idea to make sure your dog has a filled water dish when it's out there. Both for the dog's sake, and for yours (so there is nothing legitimate that can be complained about)

Good luck,

Back when I lived in a subdivision, there was one lady who called several times about my dogs. One day her home was vandalized, and she called the cops and told them she thought it was me. i was absolutely furious, and for that reason, my very diplomatic husband went over to talk to her. (I would NOT have been very diplomatic). Turns out, she was upset, b/c when we first moved into the neighbourhood, we had a barbeque with a few of the neighbours over. She was upset b/c we never invited her. (wonder why) she was a lonely lady who lived alone who IMO, had nothing better to do with her time than make other people miserable. Most others in the neighbourhood had run-ins with her too.

Where I live now, i have 4 neighbours, with the closest one being 1/4 mile away. Two I have never talked to yet. One good (but her her dog killed my rooster), and the fourth neighbour is good.

Sadly, my chickens are going to live with a friend soon. I dont know what else to do. I have tried desperately to find a house but 120k just does not buy much in des moines for someone with 3 small kids, a military husband with more crud than I care to think about and chickens/ducks. I give up. They are miserable inside and animal control suggested*kindly*I keep them inside where they cant see them. I feel like saying some very unnice things right now, foreclosing on my house, breaking windows, baking a pie with arsenic etc. Thank goodness I wont do any of those things right??? Seriously though, they said it was fine when I asked to begin with, the dispatcher at the police station said she had 3 on a 6,000 sq foot lot in the middle of town. !!!!!!!&&&%%$%&(*($%$^&() I feel so much uh better now.

What does your city ordinance say? If it states you can have chickens then if anyone bothers you about them you can consider that harassment INCLUDING city employees. But its up to you as a home owner to know the laws either way.

I had two ladies trespass on my property and snoop in my barns, and then they went and got Animal Control because my cow pen smelled like cowpoo. They were well known to the Animal Control, they so this all the time, but I was ticked that they figured they could come on my property and have the gaul to try and start something.
