Annoying Coworkers

Why does there always have to be one? I work in a small office with wonderful people for the most part, but a coworker is constantly pouting, stirring up trouble, finding excuses to get out of work, etc. The worst part is, since she started a last year (and I was intstrumental in her promotion), she is friendly and funny around me part of the time and then--- wham! No warning-she starts treating me like something she scraped off of her shoe. Looks at me with unveiled disgust and takes a tone with me that is, shall we say, unpleasant.

It is exhausting!!!

I'd avoid her, doing anything or giving her mean looks back will just cause her to do it more. And im not one for "two faced" people so even if she is acting happy, and funny around me i'd leave.

ETA: Kindness is another route as well.

I can relate. We had a fairly pleasant work environment at my last job until a particularly unpleasant employee was hired who thought all other employees were there to serve him.

Be real nice to her. She will soon be your supervisor. You can do all of the work and she will get all of the raises. Be prepared, you will take the blame for all errors and problems.

It is the way of offices.

I'm pretty much the same to folks whether I like them or not. Life is too short to get caught up in crap like this. I just wish she would choose a personality (even if it is the one that treats me like feces), and stick to it. She's wearing me out!

They like to keep you guessing. Makes them feel like they're in control of you and everyone else in the office. She probably will end up being the big boss....as people like that ALWAYS end up 'on top'.

i had one like that at my last job....she caused a LOT of problems with her bi-polar two-faced personality. After she left....we had one of THE best teams I've ever had the pleasure of working in! It's amazing how that ONE person can really change dynamics!
Just keep your chin up....don't worry about her mood...just do your OWN thing and say "hi" when she does but other than that...mind your own! (That drives them nuts more than anything....to feel they can't keep you guessing! TRUST ME ON THAT ONE!!!
