Eh, my mother was annoying in this way too. Sometimes, she'd get a bug up her butt about the housework. I had a list of chores. When she was in one of her moods, if I dared commit the crime of finishing early so I could have some time to myself, she'd come up with something else for me to do. The rooms were never clean enough, she could always find something in them that needed cleaning. I recall scrubbing the edges of the floor with a toothbrush once as well as rewashing whole loads of laundry whose only crime was sitting out of the dryer for half an hour because I hate folding hot laundry. It wasn't the vacuuming that bothered me, it was the vacuuming rooms that didn't need it. It wasn't the cleaning of the bathroom, it was the scrubbing down with bleach of a bathroom that was already hospital sterile.
Sometimes, kids want to relax and have some downtime too. For my mother, sitting down for a few minutes was an invitation to her finding something for you to do. And yet she'd play solitaire for hours. Kids should share in the chores. They shouldn't be doing all of them, and they shouldn't be doing make-work unless they are being punished.
