Thank you all for your comments. Just a bit more info on me. I have a flock of 9 common blue peacocks and am expecting some additions shortly. I also have a pair of muscovy ducks but was unsuccessfull in breeding them this year as the drake is in love with an unresponding goose. The gaggle consists of 12 geese and I will keep my stories of these bird until a later date. Joining the birds at breakfast are a number of satin bower birds, tourquoise parrots, kookaburras and numerous other free loaders. All birds are free range and only the chickens retire to their coop at night. I know this is not quite backyard poultry but it keeps me amused in retirement. My last light sussex rooster that was surplus to requirements weighed 3.7 Kg (8lbs) dressed at 7 months of age. They are great layers and great to eat. I think they are under-rated as a general purpose bird.
