Does your fish and wildlife allow for dispatching of nuisance animals? Here in KY you can get a permit to do just that with most wildlife. Rubber slugs sound fun though...

Pretty lenient here, we the people still respectfully runs things. Live free or Die state. The rubber sends a clear message with a sizable welt on ones back side

This is the very reason why I feed them inside unless I’m spraying for mites etc. Even though I’d rather feed them in the open air, it attracts other animals. I do spread some cracked corn in the morning, but they eat it up in minutes so I don’t worry about it too much.
My feed is locked in my garage in plastic barrels.
A friend of mine watched a bear take a bag of koi food from his porch and run into the woods with it! When a bear is hungry .... they are pretty powerful animals

What do you use to spray for mites?

Permathine ( not sure how it’s spelled) I use it after I clean the coops. It works well. I close the door for a few hours then open it for the rest of the day. Early evening the chickens go in. Never had a problem

Was the feed hanging in there when the bear tossed around all that stuff?
Do you have a trail cam so we can see the bear test the hot wire?

Yes it was in there- but now I remove it. The electric fence wasn't up yet, see original post, but I am in the process of getting it hooked up. No trail cam up there yet.

Yes, knew hot wire wasn't up when tossing occurred.
That bear must have not been too hungry, could have easily gotten nails into HC and torn it down, or maybe something scared it off before it got that far.

The dogs likely barked. Thank goodness not substantial damage
