We have our second batch of meat birds. While waiting for the new run to be built, we penned the meaties with the layers. The meaties are too stupid to find the water dishes during the hot days and just lay there and pant. They let the little layers peck at their bottoms. One day after work I came home to find a few meaties had huge gashes starting where the tail feathers start. We separated the bloody chicks for a few days until the new run was ready for the layers. We only have the meaties in the original pen now and they do not peck at each other. Their bottoms are healing. My question is this, will it be safe to butcher and eat them or will this have caused anything to ruin the meat?
