I have been given some used cedar 2 x 4 lumber that was from a deck that has been replaced. I am in the process of converting my old goat barn into a chicken coop. Can I use this cedar lumber on the inside? I would assume that all the harmful oils and scent are aged out of it, but want to check and be sure before I use it.

Thanks. BYC has been a valuable source of information for me. Maybe someday I will have learned enough to give back.

As long as it doesn't smell like a cedar closet when cut, and the coop will be well ventilated (which it should be anyhow of course), you should be fine.

Have fun,

Pat

Thanks Pat. I pick up the lumber today and It will save me a bundle if I can use it.
I need to build a shed to put the goat hay in if it won't work for my chicken coop.
