Ohio (but not a buckeye!!)
Hi everyone. Im still very new to keeping a flock.
A week ago I had a weird thing turn up inside an egg. Did some Google browsing, and thought I just got an XL chalaza. But now someone is telling me this was actually a worm, and I may or may not be freaking out. So I wanted to get the input of this community.

Unfortunately, this is the best pic I have… like I said, I thought it was chalaza so I just discarded and moved on. If I remember correctly, part of this was clear, part was white (so not a worm?). You can kind of see in the photo if you follow the white segment to the top and into the egg white, but now I’m doubting myself.

Grab a magnifying lens and fish that thing out of the bowl and look at it under magnification. If it's a tape worm, and it is possible, it will have segments and won't be smooth.

If you don't have a magnifying lens, you should get one, don't you think?

I don’t have it anymore. I thought it was a chalaza and just got rid of it. This was all a week ago, but now someone told me it was a worm. So I’m just hoping someone on here has wisdom/experience and can see something from this pic that I can’t.

If you do not see any segments in your photo, it's likely not a worm. The photo isn't magnified enough for me to see if there are segments. All worms have segments. That's how you know it's a worm.

If it was a worm, it will be a good idea to get a fecal float test on your chickens, you can collect a group sample ( I don't know how many chickens you have) from a few of them and have a vet look at it. Also pay attention to their poop, tape worms look like rice and some times you can even see several segments of the worm.
