Greetings everyone!
I am a new chicken mom from the central valley in California. I recently started my chicken journey about a month ago after mulling it over for a couple years. I am new to chickens, but not to forums so I've been lurking around here, soaking in all of the wisdom. I have 6 babies that I picked up from Tractor Supply and while they were supposedly sexed, I've come to accept that I've probably got a few unwanted roosters so Ill have to cross that bridge when I come to it.
Still, I'm impressed at how resilient these little guys/gals are. It has been well into the 100s here and I have them in their brooder currently set up on my patio with misters. I've been adding electrolytes to their water and give them frozen treats which they go crazy over (yes, I have them on grit). This weekend, they were introduced to the yard and they were the happiest little birds (and much cooler under my giant Chinese Elm). We live in urban farm land so they will have a nice coop/run set up and will free range with minimal predators (large birds, cats, and probably some intrusive rodents). My neighbors on 3 sides of the fence have chickens so I've been keeping mine at a distance for biosecurity and will likely continue to do so where possible.
Anyway, happy to be here! And looking forward to seeing these babies flourish. They'll certainly be spoiled.
My little "chick band" looking like they are straight off a music album cover.
I refer to them as my "Truffles": 2 Buttercream, 2 Caramel, and 2 Dark Chocolate. The buttercreams are by far the most clueless.
