Another dog attack by neighbor's dog. Stupid dog, stupid gate, Thank you chickens for running away.

instead of screaming and crying why dont you just get an aggressive donkey? Or sometimes you can find a horse with strong canine aggression get a free rescue horse that is known to be aggressive to canines. I use to have a hot blood that would kill dogs that came near it. Just get something like that. Wow it is such a easy fix. Right now i have a dog that will kill any dog that comes on her turf. Wild or tame. After a few fights my dog quickly learned how to dispatch another dog really quick that comes on her turf and trys to mess around. I hate this but she does what she feels she needs to do. Even if is 2 or 3 dogs. I was shocked at how easy she can handle dogs without being touched now. But i wont let her kill them just mess them up a bit and get her to stop while they cry and run usually. If the dogs are in packs if the leader is being hammered and having the crap being beaten out of him or her if he is a coyote or a dog the others will spoook and stop fighting. That is what usually happens they will all come and attack but my dog will ripp up the leader in seconds and the other dogs spook and run off cause their leader is clobbered so quick and easy.

They are such cowards they dont stay in the fight when they see their leader is so easily beat within seconds pinned and being tossed around like a ragdoll. They leave him and let him.

NOT a pony or a mini donkey they need to be big and aggressive to canines. It is easy to find a equine that is just naturally nasty to canines. As soon as a canine comes into their field they will try to trample and kick it to death. Horse people should know this...

Mares and stallion hot bloods with canine aggression will put the fear of god into a dog quick. Same with a tempermental donkey.

Very strange advice......I get the feeling the OP lives in town, so horse or donkey is probably out of the question. Horses and donkeys are also a VERY expensive animal to keep......I would never advise anyone to get a horse without researching it first. MOST people do not have the land, $$$, or time to deal with a horse. You need approx. 3 acres per animal and plenty of money to spend on barn, fencing, hay, farrier, vet, worming, etc. Horses are also very social animals...so keeping one is NOT a good situation. I would prefer the OP spend their money putting in a nice new fence instead of attempting to support a horse to guard the yard. I also would not want the liabilty of keeping an attack dog. Dog fights can get REALLY ugly...at some point you may find your dog on the recieving end of the fight. Easier to just fix and maintain the fence.

horses are expensive donkey are not

The horse advice was for those who are interested or have experience or already have the proper place to keep them.

these are still not as effective as a serious dog from strong working lines but they still work a lot of times

They're awesome neighbors by letting us keep these (illegal) chickens, so I ain't complaining!
I think I fixed the gate by putting a rock climbing loop thing (what's it called?) around it! I can't open it unless I take it out so IN YOUR FACE YOU CHICKEN LOVING DOGS!! :tongue

this is an old thread but since I came across it looking for advice on helping a chicken victim of a dog attack I had to add my comment. I despise irresponsible pet owners. I have several animals of different species. When I get a new animal we bring everyone in the house to live for a few days. The results of this are that my chickens my rabbits my cats and my dogs now all share the same water bowl. Its funny to see the dwarf rabbit chase the tom cat away. Even though they all get along I would never allow my dog to wander the neighborhood unattended. My neighbor however.... his dog thinks every animal I have including my
400
own dog is his next meal and I guess he thinks my yard belongs to him a well. Living in the county of course we can't get anyone to respond to official complaints. I tried speaking with the neighbor to no avail. So I went and bought a stake and a chain and secured the dog to their property. They never said a word but moved his dog house close enough for him to reach.
