After letting out our flock my son noticed Nappy, our Jersey Giant
was in an egg box. She was acting OK and would eat if I hand fed her.
I was a little nervous that she was sick since she is only 16 weeks old.
Well, an hour later, with no clucking at all, she popped out her, and our,
first egg. She stayed with it for 20 minutes then ran out with the other
chickies. It's a tiny egg.

Woohoo!! Congrats! I just LOVE getting the first ones. Sooo tiny...yet soo delicious!

I did notice however, your nest box looks wet/damp. You might try to get some Sweet PDZ....or stall fresh..and sprinkle it in there, to help with moisture. Just so there is no mold later on.

Thanks Deb. Good observation on the moisture. It leaks into
the boxes when it rains. I've been meaning to fix it but they
haven't been used yet. I'm gonna clean and dry them out later today.
A little aluminum flashing should stop the leak.

You said the new eggs are delicious. Can you eat them? I thought
the first couple eggs aren't good. The shell is solid and it feels good and
heavy, just small.

Thanks!!!
Don
