5 of my 14 adult birds have fowl pox, and the rest are not showing symptoms. Is it safe for me to vaccinate the ones who are not showing symptoms? Or is the virus already in their system?

I have not delt with fowl pox, so have no answer for you (but I would guess they have been exposed to it if they are housed together but honestly do not know)

But if you use the search link, upper left - blue bar, above your logged in name - you can specify Fowl pox for your search and the emergencies/diseases/injuries thread. You will get lots of info.

Hope the birds are feeling better soon.

I don't believe you can vaccinate adult birds for fowl pox.

The following is info from a University site;

There is no treatment for fowl pox. Control and prevention in chickens is accomplished by vaccination by the wing web method with a commercially available fowl pox or pigeon pox vaccine. This should be administered to all chickens at 12-16 weeks of age. Vaccinated birds should be examined for takes about seven to ten days following inoculation. A take consists of swelling of the skin or a scab at the site where the vaccine was applied.

I'ts recommended that you vaccinate the ones not showing symptoms, it will do no harm if they already have the virus and are not showing symptoms..Also adult fowl can be vaccinated....
