Another grit question - 8 week old chicks

We just switched from starter to grower feed a few days ago. Do I have to add grit at this stage with this feed? They started to spend some time in the yard with the hens, separated by chicken wire so they can move around more than in the brooder and they can scratch for fun.
They are outside for about 2-4 hours now because it is cold, but when it was sunnier we tried most of the day 6-8 hours. We started on grass but now they are in the chicken run which is mostly dirt, some sand and ash for dust bath, with some green brush and trees.

They should get sufficient grit from the soil and foraging around, but some members prefer to add grit in a separate feeder. This link should help you:

I give my chicks granite grit from the time I give them anything other than the starter crumble I use...which is at about 1 week old, when they get a chuck of sod for the yard tossed in their brooder to help start building immunities.
I sprinkle a bit of the granite grit on top of the sod.
