Adorable babies! So interesting!! One day I’m going to have to do a deep dive on learning more about chicken genetics. I am thinking “one day” is probably going to come sooner than later. Your Ancona mix chicks are black because mottling is recessive, both parents have to contribute a gene for the chicks to be mottled. Ancona are mottled black, and black is dominant over other colors, so black makes sense for this mix
