Lainey has made her debut!!!

She looks more like Lasso so now I’m questioning if I mixed Doc and Lasso up. I’ll be able to tell better when everyone is fluffy and I can look for fluffy Easter egger cheeks.

Congratulations! They're precious!

Your Ancona mix chicks are black because mottling is recessive, both parents have to contribute a gene for the chicks to be mottled. Ancona are mottled black, and black is dominant over other colors, so black makes sense for this mix

So interesting!! One day I’m going to have to do a deep dive on learning more about chicken genetics. I am thinking “one day” is probably going to come sooner than later. I haven’t left the incubator since 6:30am just waiting to see what all these babies are going to look like!

Saguaro popped out! He has the most black of all the Anconas

Now just waiting for Billy the Kid, who as far as I can see hasn’t pipped (but the fat end of his egg is stuck inside another shell so he very well could have)

And number 3, Cheyenne, who is pipped and just taking her sweet time!
