Hi My ButtonQuail have always hatched like clockwork on Day 16.
I've just started hatching new-to-me Jumbo Coturnix Quail and they are not so 'regular'? Last 3 weeks, they started hatching on Day 16 and were done. This week, they are started Day 16, still hatching on Day 17, and new pips --- so they will continue on to Day 18. Are they not so predictable? I don't like leaving them the extra days in the hatcher or waiting for the stragglers (or is that normal and I'll just include the extra time).
Do Jumbo Quail usually need 18 days to hatch?
Thaks!

Hi Prettiest Frog! That's not good to hear. I like a hatch to start and finish in a day and not drag out.
Are Jumbo Quail prone to dragging? 21 days for quail seems too long (note that I am impatient).

BINGO! youri.
Dipsy Doodle, you are over cooking all species of coturnix.
A 16 day hatch should be very rare. Coturnix(including buttons) generally hatch in the 17-19 day time frame. If you are getting a 16 day hatch or 2 and no bulk hatch, then your incubator temp is way to high. 50-100% should hatch around day 18. A 15-16 day hatch is always fun, but not optimal. Under cook coturnix. You will be glad you did.

Yep. 16 and 21 day hatches are both on the extreme ends of the spectrum, but 18 is the norm. A 16 day is a pleasant surprise and a 21 day is a nail biting bit of tension. Other types of quail can be 23 days.

Yes, an 18-19 day hatch is fine with me for coturnix quail. Down right optimal. I do not discuss other species of quail, because I have no knowledge in that area.

Thanks! I'm not sure what to do about that. I've been setting the Buttons and Jumbos in the same incubator (LG w/ fan and turner) with chicken eggs and the temperature is 99.5 at 'chicken egg height'.
When the quail start laying again, I'll try them in an incubator by themselves.
