Hey there hi there! got you reply. I hope things can be chamged I would.like at least three myself Got aan interest in the historical breeds like dominickers, javas and buckeyes some of it is family history, my paternal granparents had dominikers my husbands grandmother (maternal) had RIRs and dominickers. We're both avid history buffs an we came up with a theory concerning chickens and his family.
His maternal grandparents and great granparents lived in Alabama prior to the civil war I think it is possible the chickens they had at that time migh have been Auburn Javas. "Yankee troops did a number on the family property even though the famly were southern abolitionists. Okay, it's possible those chickens became dinner for those troops They were doin a lot of that, getting their provisions from the the unwilling locals.
Who's to say that the war contributed to the disappearance of the Auburn Java. the color was considered extinct by about 1870? (thanks to the folks at G.arfield farm they're back! yay!)
now hubby's granmaw was born in 1880, couls she heard about her mother;s auburn chickens and when she started her own househol which would have been about the same time the RIR was developed could it be her mother's stories might of enfluenced her to try some?
There's no way I can substantiate any of this, but it is something to think about.
What do you think?
