Another Hen died from our horrendous heat!!!

Thanks, everyone. They are truly beloved pets as you all know. I held each one tonight and prayed they would be alright. I know, silly, but I believe God cares about each one of them.

Cheap box fans running full tilt in their favorite shaded area. Spray the grass in front of the fans with a hose (if no grass porous door mats or some straw, etc.) speeds up the evaporation just enough to cool the feet a bit.

We have a fan blowing into the coop and one outside the back window sucking the air out.

We soak the sand in the runs and aim the fans in:

Best of luck!

That's not silly at all. We all get attached to our wonderful little creatures

I forgot, I also freeze water bottles, the larger gatorade bottles, and put them in the waterers, they fit nicely in there.

Boy, the heat's hard on them, especially the old and sick. Make sure you've done everything you can as far as worming, parasites, taking care of sniffles, etc. I do hose my run and chicken yard area down when it's headed for triple digits. Try putting some gatorade powder in the water to encourage lots of drinking!

All wonderful ideas here. Also, try adding electrolytes to their water. My 9+week old girls are still on it since they were hatch-lings. I was advised by a good friend who has raised chickens her whole life,
to use up the additive through the hot summer, until it's all used up. The idea is to ease the stress of all the transitions in their new lives, until they finally settle in by the Fall. Tractor Supply sells this product- very inexpensive. Good Luck.
