Blue Raptor
Ad Astra Per Aspera
Welcome to BYC!!Hello all and thank you for all the help that’s been provided here! Many resources here helped me get where I am, so thank you! I’m ready to share things I’ve learned along the way as well as progress of my flock!
Pictured in my avatar is my handsome rooster Roo-Paul (yes after the famous Drag Queen Ru-Paul cause he’s so fancy). I’ll answer the questions to keep it organized or I’ll end up with a book!
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I am new-ish, this is the first flock of my own but I learned a lot from my mother in law when she started 1 1/2 years ago.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I have 22 hens and 1 rooster, I learned about chicken math and just figured go big to begin with!
(3) What breeds do you have?
I have 19 week old birds of the following breeds:
1 random breed (my freebie but I think it’s possibly an Easter egger, but that could be a WTB and then I don’t know which one it was lol)
3 Welsummers
3 Australorps
6 Whiting true blues (1 is the rooster)
10 whiting true greens
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
They are just fun to watch and interact with, the eggs are nice too!
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I am a Japanese import car fan, specifically the Celica/Alltrac (hence my user name from my other forum groups). Beside working on cars I love to travel, do wine/beer tastings, yoga, hiking, and spend time with my husband and dog. I will be looking to start gardening next year as we expand our homestead.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I have a wonderful husband, he really went all out to get me what I wanted for the chickens…we built the “Egg-Plant Estate” (huge coop and enclosed run) together. He’s semi retired and I’m taking a break from healthcare. We have a 7 y/o pit mix named Lacey and are happy to be settling into our new homestead in WA state.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I found the site while researching the breeds I wanted and have come back many times for information over the past year at least. I’m joining today because I feel the people here are like minded and would like to share my progress with everyone and help others as well!
Thanks for taking the time to read this and say hello!
Amy
