Just wanted to introduce myself as a new poster, but not new to chickens. We just got a few polish crested to keep DH (the Air Force Polish linguist) happy. Our new coop will soon sport my user name that roughly translates to "fun house" in Polish. Not original, but cute anyway.
We have a 12.5 acre farm outside of Raleigh where I raise horses (Imp, Kiva, Dream, Wildfire, and Rebel), but haven't ridden for awhile. I am up to my eyeballs in paint, etc. while fixing up the old farmhouse and barn. Other critters of interest are Hobbes the wonder cat who is protective of her chickens. She lets the hawks know it, too! She goes around and around the pen, if the prey birds are hanging around. Sid is the hound that has adopted the new biddies, he's guarding the door (on the other side) as I write. We also have Lily and Bailey who are Scottish Highland sheepdogs.
