Hi there,
I've been secretly reading up and learning tons from all of you or a while now and since I'm in the process of building my coop ow, I figured it's time to become an official member :)

Since I already feel like I'm living in a zoo most days and having a well growing veggie garden that supplies us with food I decided to add chickens for the fun and eggs of it. Grew up on a farm which was converted into a chicken farm later so I'm nt new to the species but love the fact there there are so many pretty breeds to choose from! My favorite being silkies, 2 of them are a must, I also plan on adding 4 standard size ones, will have to go by what's available from the breeder I emailed since the "season" is coming to an end.

I'm currently working on the side frames and still waiting for my husband to be nice enough and find the time to dig 4 holes to set the corner posts in for the floor which is done. Texas heat has slowed down the progress this week...

Besides the future chickens my home is also occupied by an indoor cat, gorgeous blue rag doll Persian mix, an outdoor orange cat, an unusual and big paint horse gelding, a silver dapple pinto mini mare in the midst of her terrible twos, a great Dane mix that thinks he's the size of a chihuahua and a curly haired chocolate cocker who thinks he should be the only and most treasured member of the family.

Looking forward to hanging out here more often, learning more and meeting you all :)

Sounds like you have quite a houseful. Never a dull moment?

But you don't have to read this stuff in secret. Join in and start
posting...you'll see we can't keep secrets at all. Shucks, we don't
even try.

Spook has been in Texas a few times...boy, it gets HOT there.
Saw it melt the whole parking lot one day. So I came home, turned
my AC on.

Spook...I don't like cold, and I don't like hot. I like it just right.

Sounds like you are quite an animal lover. I never had a chocolate cocker but, used to breed & show them in the late 60's and 70's. Did you know BYC has a buy-sell-trade forum and some breeds or others are usually available either at Buy It Now (fixed price) or at auction. Once you have 20 posts you can participate.

Thank you all for the warm welcome! It took a little longer for me to complete my coop but its finally DONE and today was move-in day for the "Cre8ive Chicks"!
Got 2 silkies, black and white and 2 Marans. The last 2 won't hatch until Monday so they'll be joining us in about 3 weeks.
Here are some pics and if anyone has advice on make the getting along smoother, I need it. The blue maran is not being very nice to the babies, she's 6 months old and has been with younger ones. Or will this be over in a few days?
Thanks in advance!
