Hi!
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I bought my first 4 chickens through mail order May 2011. I lost one at 6 weeks but the other three were doing great until a month ago :( One day out of the blue she was just standing still, not eating, drinking, pecking the ground, walking, nothing. I seperated her in case she just wasn't feeling well and by 11:00 that night she was gone :(

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
After I lost one of my hens I went to a chicken swap the next weekend and got two more babies!

(3) What breeds do you have?
I have one Light Brahma hen, one Golden Laced Wyandotte hen, one Silkie rooster and one Silkie hen- 3 months old.

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?

Web search

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Gardening, yardwork, reading

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

I have a wonderful husband of 23 years, a terrific 20 year old son, a fantastic 16 year old daughter, a 7 year old Shih Tzu son and a 1 year old Australian Shepherd daughter :) And an old father in law who lives in my back yard :)

I'd love some advice about introducing my new Silkies to my hens. I've had them quarantined in seperate pens for about a month and the new ones haven't displayed any signs of sickness, so since I've had them where they could see each other and "not touch", I decided last night was a good time to let them all out together to free range for a couple hours. Well like a typical man, my new rooster tried to mount both of my hens right out of the gate. Long story short, they weren't having it! My Wyandotte beat the crap out of him and even drew a little blood from his comb! He was sufficiently humiliated and spent the rest of the night in his nest box pouting. But, boy oh boy was he full of him self this morning! He was crowing his heart out...it's really easy to be cocky when there's a wall of chicken wire protecting you! Any ideas about when I should try again??
