A couple of my pullets started squatting today but no laying yet (from these two anyway.) Is there a generalized time frame from when they start to squat to when they start to lay? Like is it usually days? Could it still be weeks? I think I know the answers I'm going to get-"only time will tell." But just wanted to throw it out there to pick the ones' brains who have actual experience here. TIA!

Sincerely,
Very impatiently awaiting my new eggs!

If they have started squatting, I would say for sure within a couple weeks they should start laying. It's always exciting waiting for them to start laying. Be on the look out all over they have access too. They might start and it could be on the floor or outside if they haven't realized that the nesting box is the best place.

Thank you. They do free range in my yard a few hours each day so I'll check around. I do have two girls laying already and and another mock setting (setting on the fake eggs even tho she's not laying yet-I made that term up bc I don't know what it's called) and they are all doing it in the nesting boxes. I hope these two aren't hiding eggs! One is my EE and I can't wait to get a colored egg!
