Another Newbie Question

So both pairs have been laying this week- 3 from the Red Goldens pen and 3 from the Dark Throat pens...

I ran across a Trio of Red Goldens this week- I have them in QT for a while but hoping to introduce the hens into my Red Golden pen- my plan is to section off a part of my pen such that my pair can see the hens in certain areas but not in others and after a couple of weeks, remove the visual barrier between them for a couple of weeks then remove the netting that keeps them apart on a day that I can sit and watch them.

Question-this would give me 3 hens to one cock bird with the other male in a male pen or would I be better off by having 1 male- 2 hens and then another pair??

You should have already had all of them together if you had planned on them being together and not have waited until they were into breeding season. If it were me I would keep them separate because more than likely the male will look at the other females like inturders and either kill them or really hurt them. Also if you plan on putting them together you will have to take out all the birds and reintroduce them together but doing that this late in the season your females may only have infertile eggs because of the stress or again the male may not accept them.

Understand what you are saying- unfortunately, I am not in a local where pheasants are big (chickens and quail- yes, but pheasants, not so much unless it is ringnecks) It has taken me about 7 months to find these birds- so I am guessing I will keep the trio together and have an additional pair.....

The Red Golden that I do have is laying sporadically- in a week, I have gotten 3 eggs from her- while the dark throats have laid 5....(all of them are very young birds so I expected a "weak" hatch this year...

They will get stronger as time goes on but right now they are just starting to lay by the end of the season they will be laying every other day unless something happens during that time to stress them.
A good way to start to get people to know about the pheasants is take them to shows or your feed show advertise them so people will learn about them. Where do you live?

I am in West Columbia SC- there is a guy in Elgin and one in Camden that have nice pheasant set ups (one guy has about 60 flights that are 10 x 20 in rows-I loosely modeled my pens after his)

Thanks for your advice- it is GREATLY appreciated....my birds seem to be somewhat calm- they won't quite eat out of my hand but they do come to see what I am bringing them every morning...
