Hi! What a great site...I've only been lurking for a few days-but now, I can't stay off! I'm from Colorado and we are trying to get moved to eastern Tennessee, as soon as the house sells. We are looking to purchase acreage so we can become more self sufficient. I have wanted chickens for a long time...but, just never lived in the right area. I have raised exotic birds...types that people said could never bred-and they bred like rabbits for me. So, I'm hoping my research, and the help of all you wonderful people, can get me on my path to chicken bliss. My husband and I are in our early 50's...the older we get, the further out we want to be. I have been researching for the last four or five months...books on chickens, coops...you name it. I just don't know where to begin...I'm pretty sure I want layers...to start. Something with a good disposition, so the grand kids(and me, of course) can pet and hold them. I would like to talk to people from eastern Tennessee, so I know more in depth of the weather, and do's and don'ts for that area. My husband is from North Carolina, but hasn't lived there since high school, so I would live to ask you all my many questions, and also try and find a mentor.
Thank you for this wonderful site! I can't believe the amount of information....!I hope you are all ready, cause the questions will be coming!
