Hi I'm new to the world of chickens. Just a stay at home mom that thought chickens would be fun for my little one and the price of eggs have sky rocketed here in CA. I have a degree in Animal Science but reading out of a book years ago doesn't mean much now :) I need good people to help me on my adventure

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

You have come to the right place for all the fun and learning! Have you stopped by our learning center yet? Lots of good articles on getting started with chickens, building the coop, picking out the breeds, raising the chicks and keeping your adult flock happy, healthy and safe from predators...https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center

So make yourself at home here. If you have any questions along the way, feel free to ask around in the forums.

Welcome to our flock!

So glad you joined us. Wish everyone could experience growing up with a stay at home mom, and the world would be a better place :)

Hope you decide to get your own flock.

The highest investment is your coop, after that chicken feed and care is quite inexpensive. But the rewards of loving your own layers is IMO priceless.

I think your background does place you a step ahead of most.

Feel free to ask questions, we're here to help.

I'm glad you joined our community!

I've certainly enjoyed my chickens. They have wonderful personalities, lay delicious eggs, and provide hours of entertainment.

Good luck with any future chickens!
