my wife and I just got chicks for the first time this spring. We live Vancouver Washington, in a rural area on the outskirts. We are still learning quite a bit, started off wanting only four chicks...we now have nine. Needless to say our coop was quite small so we had to make some renovations. It's 4' x 4' with three levels to make more floor space so that they're not pulling fearhers out of each other.

Do your chickens utilize all the  floors?  Or pile up together on one.?   It's still much too small a coop, doubly so for 9 birds.  But, that is only my opinion.

They are using all floors and seem to have stopped picking on each other, but I am well aware of the size issue. The coop was originally built for four chickens, but we picked up more and got two chicks from the neighnors after a rat got to 13 of their 15; the coop went from 16 square feet to ~ 37 square feet ish of floor space. If this doesn't work we'll have to go from there.
