So, I am going into lockdown tonight, and I was wondering if there is any particular position the eggs need to be in? I have incubated them on their sides the whole time so far. I figured when I collect eggs, they are always on their side, so it seemed natural.. So keep them this way?

Another question. For about the last 5 days, I cannot see the embryo like I could before.. I mean, I understand they grow, but all I can see now is the air pocket. (Eggs are brown, barred rock so they were always kinda hard to see anyways).. the rest of the egg other than the air sack is black.. You cant see anything.. Is this normal for day 18, and the last 5 or so days? Just hoping their not dead...I have 9 in the bator.. and 9 more due on the 20th in another bator.

Did you see any movement in there? Quite normal, I think.

Keep them on their sides, with the larger end higher than the pointy end. Some use the egg carton method, but as I know next to nothing about that, I will let those more experienced with it say their bit.

Did not see any movement... just a black mass.. so thick in fact that the light will not penetrate it to see movement if there was some. Should I see movement around the seperation line of the black mass, and air pocket? All 9 eggs look exactly the same.

Not necessarily - they are pretty tightly packed in there at this point. Keep going and before you know it you will have lots of warm fuzzies.

The black mass is normal. The chick has grown so much that it fills the inner membrane up.

Just lay the eggs on the side, they will be fine. If you watch closely, every now & then, you'll see on rock a little where the chick is moving around.

But beware of watching too much, or you might start seeing rocking when there is none.

I am watching so much that I have no idea if I am actually seeing rocking, or if my eyes are playing tricks on me!
