Hi all
It is nice to find such a great resource.

My husband and I recently bought a home on 9 acres and have lots of work to do fixing it up. We have been thinking we would like to have a few chickens we could free range. I hope to do some research by reading your forums and perhaps asking a few questions of my own. I want to keep them safe but also allow them to free range.

thanks again to all who are old hat and take time to post here.

Welcome!!!

Sounds like you've got a great set-up there! Adding some chickens to it sounds like a great plan to me!!!

BYC has been a GREAT resource for me and I researched chickens for about a year before I got them initially! There's PLENTY of info and if you have questions, just ask!

So nice to * meet * you!!!

Hi and welcome to BYC

On this link you'll find lots of information on almost every aspect of keeping chickens - from coop building ideas, to incubating eggs - https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/

There’s a link on the page above to the Learning Centre - it’s a great resource. If you have a specific topic in mind, just type it in the search box - there's a wealth of information on past and present threads.

Each week, various topics are discussed, which can also be a great resource - https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/topic-of-the-week-thread-archive

Hi and welcome to BYC :frow We're so happy you've decided to join us:ya

Mine live on pasture inside an electric fence with shelters to hide in during the day and sleep in at night. And they free range during the day (the four foot fence doesn't even slow them down)... If you free range be prepared for losses as everyone likes a chicken dinner. A lot of folks do supervised free ranging to limit those losses.
