This is the only rumpless chick out of 11. “Her” name is Delilah and she is five weeks old tomorrow (seen in profile photo at 1-2 weeks, I can’t remember). She is quite stunning, imo. It’s hard to tell in the photos, but she has a deep, rusty red on her wings (along with what looks like blue/grey). She seems to be the “queen” of the castle; everyone backs down to her. She is feisty, chunky, and has thicker “knees” than anyone else. She really does not have much of a comb developing yet (unlike her fellow chick, Bacon, in a previous thread). Thoughts/opinions?

I have three out of 11 I am suspecting to be roosters. I may post the other one here as well if I can find decent photos. I know no one can say with 100% certainty, but I’m very new to this and would love to hear others thoughts.

While I’m here, I guess I might as well post Pancake, my other suspicious girl. 😄

I would be VERY suspicious of the red on the wings, considering that is almost always a male trait.

That is what I had heard/read which is why I decided to post! She’s fine for now in terms of temperament/manageability but I just get the feeling she is not going to be a very nice rooster (if she is a rooster). She’s pretty headstrong. I would rather sacrifice one of my chickens than have it be my son’s (Bacon and Pancake) because he is so attached.

Girl, she has a female specific pattern.

I feel like I should explain why she is suspect. From day one, she charged any hand in the brooder. Not viciously, just curiously. She’s SUPER friendly. She would hop on a hand at literally days old and to this day loves being cuddled. She was friendlay before any of the other chicks were and she has stayed that way. She is also big and had spur buds before anyone else (although I do realize females get those too).

This doesn't mean roo.
Spur buds...My EE who is 19.5 weeks and just started squatting has big spur bumps.

I wanted to update. This morning, at 6.5 weeks old, Delilah crowed. So we have our answer on that one. 🤣 My son was in there and sent a text worried because, “Delilah is making a funny noise.” We have fires all around us and I was worried the smoke was making her sick. But nope, she’s just a he. Lol
