Another one....LOL...Perches in the run?

I don't dare put perches in my run, it'll make it easier for them to get over the fence! My girls are flying maniacs and easily jump a 10ft fence.

My run is going to be closed, we have a hawk and falcon problem.

We have hawks and eagles but they don't come around often and the dog scares the poop out of them.

They mostly sit on top of our bank barn and dive bomb the rats and field mice lol.

I have a roost in the run and the girls love it.

I put a few branches in our secure run, and they seem to enjoy sitting on them. I haven't had a problem with the hens roosting on them at night, either.

Mine used to have one (now that I think about it I need to replace it - but I digress

) and I would crack up when I'd go looking for them and there would be 10 hens and their guy sitting on it all in a row as quiet as could be. BTW, it was tilted at quite an angle but they'd still sit there and grip tightly at a 50* angle. Funniest thing...

I do have one in my run and never had problems with them outside at night. After all, they all go inside the coop nightly and I do make sure there is enough room for everyone to have a comfy space on roosts.
