How far should the roost be from the wall to accommodate tail feathers?

I did mine 12" from the wall and it works great.

Was that for Muscovy hens?

It is for both drakes and hens but they are still growing a little bit they are 8 months old. So maybe 16 or 18 " from the wall

I do 20". That provides for room and safety from any preds that can reach in. But I used to live in FL and had open air coops so roosts were not surrounded by solid walls and needed to be further in.

I still do 20" though.
