One egg has a tiny hole with a little beak poking out. The chick is peeping, but doesn't seem to be doing much. It's been like this since yesterday afternoon. How long does it take to actually hatch? I'm pretty sure I'm not supposed to help the chick. Anyone out there know what I should do?

When they are pipped that long, the membrane around the hole gets dry and tough. If you could use an eye dropper or a straw and just carefully drip water on the edges of the shell, it will soak into the membrane. Be careful not to drip water on the baby's beak or up its nose. If there is a good chip you could lift up for him, maybe that plus the moistened membrane would allow him to do it the rest of the way on his own.
