So, my button quail are growing (I haven't lost any of my 15 babies! yay!) and they're like 2 1/2 weeks old.

They're getting their colors right now and I've decided to keep 3 or 4 pair of them (separately, of course), but I'm having trouble determining which are boys and which are girls...

I've got a few that are completely obvious (I think...?)

3 of them frequently do that "KREEE- KReee-kreeee"! (1 of which is clearly gonna be a wild-type male...the others are a silver and a speckled-looking one)
...so I assume that they're males, right?

They'll be standin there and they extend their heads and open their throats and call. Then one of the others responds.

...so anyway, my other question is I have a bunch of.... forgive me here..but... brown-colored ones. I think that they're wild-type but I don't know for sure.

Are males and females a different color??

Because it seems to me that all of them that are slightly DARKER have white throat patches and those that are slightly LIGHTER have beige throats...

But I don't know if they are just a different variety of button quail or what?

I checked the vent on one of the white-throated wild-type juveniles and there were no red feathers (although the one that I've separated for myself has them! he's so pretty!

...I also checked the vent on the lighter wild juveniles and there were no red feathers there either... They might be a little young for that technique though.

Thanks guys! You've been so helpful!

These button quail are awesome!!!!!
