Was reading through my mail and got this article from Mother Earth News. Scary to think that things like this actually occur but I know I will never buy store bought chicken again. Hopefully the link works I really wanted to share this.

I don't think it promotes growth. I think it is for the conditions they live in, to protect them from disease.Quote:
I agree but we don't give our birds antibiotics when they don't need it to help them grow. I think that is more what the article is talking about rather than using antibiotics to help a sick bird as needed. Lots of large factory farmers use antibiotics as a supplement rather than to help with illness. I guess when it's used in food it promotes growth of the birds. I just think it's scary what people are willing to do to make a buck at the expense of all of us.
. That's part of the reason, but it also promotes growth, which is the primary reason it is used.I don't think it promotes growth. I think it is for the conditions they live in, to protect them from disease.
This is true. Often without any clear idea of what disease it is they are trying to treat or even any idea of whether that particular antibiotic will work for what their birds have.Lots of backyarders use anti-biotics as well. Just sayin'.
