I have 9 week old mixed REGULAR sized birds, 10 of them and ended up with one Rooster. We were then given 3 super cute Moltted Cochin Bantams and 1 of them is definitely a Rooster. Is there anyway to make this work?

Sometimes, but not often. The odds really are not in your favor. I am assuming that you are a first timer? If so, I suggest removing both the roosters from your flock. An all hen flock is the best on to start with.

If you have children under 6 years of age, I STRONGLY recommend removing both roosters. Roosters tend to become aggressive towards children first, and under the age of 6, they take it in the face. This forum is full of posts where the darling became the nightmare in an instant. Which probably is not quite true, but inexperienced people do not pick up on the signals that the bird is becoming aggressive.

IMO - roosters take considerable experience, and I think you get better roosters in a multi-generational flock. Roosters need a lot more space than hens. In smaller set ups the chance of roosters going wrong increases dramatically. I would only have one rooster in a flock that size. I have a 6 x 8 coop, and a 20 x 30 run. I run about a dozen hens, give or take.

Roosters less than a year old, cockerels are largely hormone driven, and without older birds to thump manners into them, they become bullies. They often harass the pullets unmercilessly, and can begin fighting with each other. Sometimes they fight once, sometimes they don't ever stop till one is dead.

Inexperienced people often times underestimate how violent roosters can be.

if you have a large open run i strongly recomend that you do keep the rooster... they help fend of predators.... but there bad for little kids...

I have both sizes and I feel they have a large pen or are free ranged I would keep both. I would keep at least one, probably standard. Just have the kids, if they are attacked thwack or try to the rooster. This shows the rooster who is boss and after a couple more time so he won’t attack

What are your goals for keeping chickens?
Unless you want to hatch out chicks, there's no reason to keep any males.
Except if you just want to.... cause they're pretty and interesting.
Multiple males can be a real problem, unless you've got separate enclosures and/or lots of space. Managing males, which includes getting rid of them, can be one of the hardest parts of chickeneering

Ummm.....no, not really.

We have 5 acres and built a 8’l x 4’w x 6’h coop and attached a 12x8x6 attached run that we plan to make larger. My goal is had more free range as possible BUT we have 2-3 hawks around us at all times. All nights have chickens as well. Thank intercepted a hawk preparing to dive yesterday while I was in garden letting them roam.

So, I like having my standard size Roo to help with protection.

The chickens are meant for eggs only and I’m already so attached to all of them. I would be okay with the Bantams mating.

The Bantams are still separated, I’ve been taking them down near the other chickens in a dog crate for the day, moving it a little closer each day. My intent had been to slowly get the crate in the run area and see how that goes before letting actually being together.

now we are considering just building another small coop and run next to them...
