I would like to put sand in my coop. I have been reading a lot about it and have decided that this would be best for my flock. My question is, my coop is a stationary 64 square foot (8'x8')coop with a dirt floor. How thick of a layer should the sand be? They have a large yard to free range and scratch for bugs during the day. The sand will only be in the coop. Thanks.

Sand is working very well for me. Mine also have a run. I topped a dirt floor with it, 2"deep. so 1/2 yard should do for you for 8X8. I got mine from a nursery as sand box sand rather than buying bags. I'm very happy, so are my girls. Hope this helps!
