can not find any ready to lay near me so trying to decide how many day olds to get.
I think I have found some speckled suxxex.

4X6... The run will be at least six times this size.

from San Diego. 4 x 6 is 24 square feet floor space. 24 x 4 is 6.... LOL... see a pattern here. Six Large Fowl. Meaning large fowl require four square feet per bird. It doesn't matter how old they are. Bantams you probably could go eight.

Of course that is a guide line one or two plus or minus.... Good start though. And even Gooder that you started BEFORE you got chicks... hee hee.

I always recommend a minimum of 32 sq.ft. period, no matter how few birds you have. The 4 sq.ft rule does not really hold up well when you get under the size of a 4x8 sheet of plywood (for example)
You also dont need that many nest boxes unless you are getting really broody prone breeds

If they are outside of the coop all day just wondring what they need all the sleeping space for?
I am in s . ont and chickens here love to be outside all day even in winter. probably put em in an old greenhouse then but still. not i the coop during the day.

Nest boxes are only for laying eggs. Roosts are for sleeping.

I know someone posted here that this is not even big enough for 1 chicken .. but i had ppl come look at it ( long time chciken care takers) and they think its fine.
Sooo I am getting 4 americaunnas. Which I think leaves me with some extra room. thanks for your help. pictures of the run and new birds soon!

That coop is big enough for ten or fifteen chickens. Just give them plenty of roosting space and an outside run and they will do fine.
